Sue Toohey: Enlightened people or enlightened actions

21 September 2023 @ 7:30 pm 9:00 pm

Description

Many of us find the idea of enlightenment almost too big to comprehend. The idea that we might become fully enlightened beings seems unlikely – at least in this life. Tonight with Sue Toohey we discuss a saying from the Zen teacher, Shunryu Suzuki, which may help us explore our understanding of what enlightenment is and at the same time help us develop greater compassion for ourselves and for our teachers.

Speaker

Sue Toohey is an experienced Dhamma, meditation and yoga teacher, qualified in both Hatha and Dru styles of yoga. She regularly takes meditation drop-in classes at the Buddhist Library. Formerly a university lecturer in the School of Public Health at UNSW, she has a lifelong interest in using yoga to counteract depression and anxiety and develop mental well-being. She has been a Buddhist practitioner for more than 30 years.
