Kynan Tan: One Teaching, Two Arrows, Three Poisons, Four Noble Truths (Zoom)
9 February 2023 @ 7:30 pm – 9:00 pm
Description
In his first teaching after his awakening, the Buddha gave a succinct summary of what he had learned under the bodhi tree. This is the discourse on the Four Noble Truths: dukkha (suffering), taṇhā (craving), releasing of taṇhā and dukkha, and the Eightfold Path to practise towards this understanding. This teaching could be seen as key to understanding buddhist practice.
This talk will explore the Four Noble Truths and how they can be relevant to our lives and practice. We will look at the different ways of understanding dukkha as suffering, stress, or mental resistance, the difference between taṇhā (craving) and wholesome desire, how we can start to notice clinging and attachment in our experience, and ways to practise meditation that lead to letting go and the cessation of dukkha.
